weight a minute

Last night i went to the gym (yes, you read that right). I have really been neglecting exercise the past month. Its not that i hate exercise, its just that i have a serious lack of enthusiasm for it. Thankfully, i have to go to gym twice a month to keep my gym membership or I might never set foot in a gym.

Im going to start going to gym more - Ok, I always say this - but this time I am going to try.

I got a rather amusing surprise last night when i went to the gym computer to check my weight, blood pressure etc...etc.....

I didnt really want to weigh myself because i was worried I might have gained a bit of weight lately (and noone likes that). I very reluctently stepped onto the scale *eyes closed, deep breath*, I gave the scale a moment and then I looked down, I was shocked to see that it said I weight 37 Kilograms (to all you Americans - that is way TOO little). I laughed so hard i almost shed a tear or two. The gym scale was obviously faulty, but it was so funny. I usually weigh about 15 - 17 Kilograms more than that and even as a teenager i probably didnt weigh that little.

I like to think the scale was just trying to tell me not to take things like this so seriously.

After that I did 15 minutes of cardio and then went home to eat a big roast chicken dinner. I got to say, losing all that weight in a matter of minutes gave me quite an appetite... heehee :)

Monday...grrrrrrr......yuck

Well its Monday and I am finding it rather unpleasant (Which I kinda expected after my great weekend)..not only is the weather totally wet & gloomy but I also woke up feeling terribly tired
*yawn*
I would like nothing more than to be at home snuggling with the Boyf....
*sigh*
I am not really in a writing mood today ..... I think i am going to crawl under my desk now and sleep a little.

Happy Friday!

"Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil; and I want you to remember this, that love... true love never dies. You remember that, boy. You remember that. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. You see, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in."

TV addicts lie

Another great cartoon by Doug Savage

Look what i got...

Today i got a blog award (isnt it pretty?).
I would like to thank... Mrs D for giving it to me, The Boyf for telling me to start a blog and all the people that actually read my blog ;)

To keep spreading the love around, here are the rules i have to follow:

1. Link back to the giver. - Thanks again, Mrs D
2. Nominate up to 7 other fabulous blogs and link to them (also let them know they got an award). - Hmmm, its hard to choose because i truly like to read so many blogs and some of the blogs i like have already gotten this award...but i must choose , So here are the 4 people i want to pass the award onto:

Boldly Benny

Miss Jane

Tamara

Elizabeth

Magician or alien?

While most of us were busy leading pretty average lives, David Blaine was doing this...

"25 Sep -New York - Magician-daredevil David Blaine has safely finished his latest stunt: hanging upside-down without a net high over Central Park for 60 hours.

Oh, he caught a bullet in his mouth, too.

The endurance artist began dangling from a wire over a park skating rink on Monday..... He celebrated completion of the wire act on Wednesday night by diving from a platform 13.41m to the ground while attached to a harness.

A two-hour ABC television special called "David Blaine: Dive of Death" also showed footage of him catching a .22-calibre rifle bullet in a metal cup in his mouth."

WTF? I had my doubts about David Blaine being human a few times before (ok, everytime i see him on TV)- but now i am sure he is not.
There is only one good explanation for why he manages to pull off such crazy stunts and acts so strange .....I think Mr Blaine is an alien. ( you know you had your suspicions too)
*
Ps - Apparently He did come down during the 60 hours to relieve himself. Which only proves to me that aliens do have to use the bathroom too.Hehhehheeee

window shopping sucks

Today i actually left the house (though i should mention it was against my will). I accompanied The Boyf to a mall so he could install a proxy server (whatever that means?) at a store there.

Under normal circumstances i would have been prancing happily around the shops looking for new summer clothes but not today....you see, unfortunately today just happens to be my poorest day of the month (AKA - the day before pay day) and I dont shop on credit.

For all the above reasons - I had no choice but to window shop.....grrrrrr

All i can say with complete certainty is that window shopping sucks!!!!
Honestly, I started to feel a bit sorry for myself and I swear even the mannequins seemed to giving me strange, sad (possibly judging) looks.

while "pretend shopping" I saw some really stunning dresses. One was so beautiful I steamed up the glass with all my heavy breathing ;)

I can assure you that after pay day i will be indulging in some serious retail therapy to clear my head of the all the bad window shopping memories..heehee

Just chilling

There are not many things that are better than a free day off work in the middle of the week.

So far today i have done absolutely NOTHING - its been wonderfully blissful.
I didnt even have to make breakfast , i just warmed up last nights left over pizza. yummy.

Right now I am lying on the couch, laptop on stomach, wearing oversized clothes and fluffy socks.......
All i need now to make this day perfect is a nice big mug of hot chocolate, butter popcorn, a few classic dvds ( maybe "Ferris Buellers Day off" and "Whats eating Gilbert Grape") and The Boyf to join me on the couch ;)

This photo made me laugh

Territorial ramblings

My mom (who is separated and getting divorced from my dad) seems to have a very active social life lately and its all thanks to her new "friend".... Lets just call him Bob the Brit.

My mom says she is not dating Bob the Brit, but I can see Bob the Brit wants to date her (grrrr). This fact alone makes him annoying.

I think Bob the Brit needs to earn the right to be liked by me. At the moment he is no where close to winning me over. True, his only crimes are: trying to date my mother and being overly nice to me and my sister - but thats enough, dont you think?

Recent conversation with Mom & Bob the Brit -

Mom (to Bob): BB, wants us to get her a bracelet when we go there
Bob: Well, thats depends how nice BB is to me *chuckles*
Me: I guess i wont be getting a bracelet then
Bob: Just for that we will just get you a cheap junk bracelet *chuckles*
Me: * rolls eyes *
Bob: Just joking, Darling , we will get you one
Me: Mom, all of a sudden i really dont want anything
Mom: BB, you are terrible *laughs*
Me: Sorry mom, but so is your taste *grins*

Maybe i am just being a childish cow,
maybe i am just being territorial for my fathers sake or
maybe i just dont think Bob The Brit is worthy of my mom
?

10 things i learnt - this weekend

1. People who drink in the sun can be persuaded to buy almost anything. I now own a handmade, wire, beaded sheep..lol
2. I do want my mother to have a social life, but her actually dating freaks me out. Big time.
3. Lack of sleep is a cheap way to get that drunken, delirious feeling
4. I love seafood - Prawns, fish, calamari..garlic butter.....but I still struggle to get over the fact that Prawns have creepy beady eyes and resemble giant bugs.
5. "The Bucket List" is an awesome movie (watch with tissues). I have so many things on my mental bucket list, i really should write them all down.
6. Its hard to find jeans that are the right length. I need to find a good tailor in Cape Town (anyone know one?)
7. The Boyf is the yummiest man alive (ok, this i have known for quite some time)
8. Quitting caffeine is going to be much harder than i thought. I actually begged for a can of coke this weekend.
9. I like to watch stupid comedies (but i wont always admit to this)
10. I really need to find a way to earn more money Or find a way to spend less - seriously. Im open to any ideas here ;)

Happy Friday!

"I'm all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with typewriters." - Frank Lloyd Wright

Coffee breath and other random things

This morning I woke up feeling tired and a a bit on the cranky side (The Boyf can vouch for this) - because of this I got to work and realised i could just not make it through the day on herbal tea, Sooooo *hangs head in shame* I grabbed the coffee instead . I have no will power(Yes, i am still trying to quit).
The coffee is so delicious and would be perfect if it wasnt for the rather strong guilt after taste....grrrrrrr....

I finally finished the book I have been reading. It took me much longer than usual as lately I have been reading at the pace of 10 year old with ADHD.

The book (Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen) was really great. It took me a chapter or so to get into it, but after that I enjoyed every page. I really liked the style of writing.

Last night The Boyf was out, So i found myself curled up on the couch watching "13 going on 30". I adore this film and Jennifer Garner is so adorable in it (how can anyone not like her?).

The film made me wonder what the 13 year old version of myself would think of the 28 year old version of me? Would "then" me be dissapointed with "now" me? Hope not.
The film also reminded me that its important to try remain young in spirit and not to let age make you too serious (if only i could remind myself of that all the time)

Only problem I have with the film is that i now have Michael Jackson's "Thriller" song trapped in my head. Every now and then i have to fight the urge not to break out into the "Thriller" dance. heehee....I forgot just how much Michael Jackson songs rocked (such a pity he is freak now).

"cause this is thriller, thriller night......lal la la la*"

Have a fabulous weekend, wonderful blog readers...catch you on Monday :)

Dream a little dream

Here are just a few things on my "dream list" at the moment(hopefully most of them will become a reality one day).
I dream of having......
A Dog:
I really want to get a big dog, but i cant have a dog in an apartment. So i will just have to wait until i have a garden.
A fitter, more toned body:
I am not very unhealthy or fat, but i certainly could do alot more exercise, drink much more water and look better in a bikini.
A home with a water view:
I want to own a house by a lake (above) OR by the beach (below).

my own book:
I want to write a book.It doesnt have to be a bestseller - but i wouldnt complain if it was ;)

A vintage car:
I would love to own a 1965 Mustang convertible in cherry red.

THE white dress:
I have no idea when i will get married,
but I really do want to one day :)

More travel:

I really want to travel ALOT more. There is so much of the world I still want to see.

At the moment i really want to travel to Paris and New York (Ive been to NY but it was only for 2 days). Also, I really would like to go back to the Greek island of Skopelos (pictured above) I just fell inlove with it while i was there on holiday and i would like to take The Boyf to see it.

* Note: If you decide to put your own "dream list" on your blog. Just let me know so I can go look at it.

Caffeine quitting

I have decided to try and quit caffeine for a while.

I actually managed to quit it once before but eventually the coffee and coke cravings were just too strong - plus I was feeling really cranky- So i hijacked a coke truck (Ok, I didnt do that, but you get my point).

I am going to only drink caffeine-free drinks, water and herbal tea -Obviously I will also still be drinking alcohol - how else will i be able to cope with the caffeine withdrawals??? *grins*

I will keep you posted on how this goes :)

A few reasons to quit caffeine:

1. Caffeine Sensitivity: There a significant number of people who are sensitive to caffeine and show number of reactions to caffeine such as jitters and sleeplessness.
2. Health Reasons: Many people experience headaches and increased level of stress resulted from caffeine consumption.
3. Aging: Caffeine is a known culprit in speeding the aging process. There are many studies which show that caffeine consumption can speed up the aging process.
4. Stress: Caffeine stimulates hormones like cortisol which not only have drastic impact on our nervous system but also have long term consequences ( and one of them is aging).
5. Heart disease and high blood pressure: Coffee consumption and caffeine intake can make many of us vulnerable to heart diseases and raise blood pressure.

"Magic" stones and skyping

On Saturday.... The Boyf bought me a awesome fluorite stone bracelet (Its was made by South African jewellery company RockChic)

I dont really believe in things like: Dream catchers, chakras, auras and third eyes etc etc...but I do find it very interesting to find out what my semi precious stone jewellery is supposed to help with. Is nice to think that stones might have some other purpose besides looking pretty - after all God did make them and could have given them some special properties (or "powers").

Theres plenty of info on the internet about what different stones are meant to do- This is what one site said about fluorite :

"Fluorite is called the “Genius Stone” due to its beneficial effects on the brain. It helps with the learning process by increasing concentration, helping one with processing information, absorption of new information, and helps promote quick thinking. It helps one recognize truth from fiction. It aids one in impartiality, which helps one make unbiased decisions. This stone helps overcome mental chaos and increases objectivity. It helps with narrow-mindedness by opening the mind to new ideas and concepts."

Sounds exactly like what i need right now - help overcoming my mental chaos. heehee.

Last night.... I finally got to talk to my friend Mish Mish. I havent really spoken to her (on the phone) in about 2 years. This sad fact is mainly due to how crazy expensive it is to call USA from here.

Thanks to Skype, Mish Mish getting a microphone and The Boyf (who helped me fix our microphone) I had a wonderful, hysterically funny, 2 hour conversation...It was so good to speak to her.

All i can say is if you have overseas friends and you dont have skype - you must click HERE to download it now (Its free to chat).

My evil twin

So, today I had this brief conversation with a friend online:

Bubbles: I saw someone that looked just like you, driving a car just like yours.
Me: Hmmm, I havent left my desk today ( i think). Tell me was she driving like a drunk and laughing hysterically? Because then It may have been my evil twin.
Bubbles: *Lol*

This little joke conversation got me thinking. You see this isn't the first time someone has said that they saw someone that looked just like me .......So my new theory is - i have an evil twin.

This theory may actually explain a few things from my past. Example: one time i "allegedly" made out with an ugly guy back in high School and i didnt remember it at all but everyone said they saw me ... But now i realise it wasnt me, it was my evil twin.

To think my friends thought I had forgotten because of all the booze that night....yeah, right- like that ever happens...*grins*

Dear Evil twin - If you are reading this Id like to ask you to stop doing stupid stuff and making me look like a loser. Couldnt you rather write a prize winning novel, get really famous or invent something awesome. Then at least you will be useful to me. Thanks.

How to act crazy - Part 2: Mail it

I think for a week everyone should try and mail things instead of e-mailing or hand delivering(Im obvioulsy talking personal things here, no work stuff - you loon). Not just to far away people, but to close people too.

Here is a phone conversation that could take place:

friend: Can i borrow that brown skirt of yours
Me: Sure. I'll go drop it at the post office tomorrow.
friend: Why would you do that. I only live 15 minutes away.
Me: It will be cool to see how long it takes. Its an experiment. Im mailing everything this week.
friend: Are you serious?
Me: Yup
friend: Have you been drinking?

For Americans and most of the world its not AS funny to mail things as it will be for South Africans. You see in South Africa its not only a question of how many weeks (yes i said weeks) it will take the package to get to its destination - its also a question of will it get there at all??

Another fun thing you can do using the postal system is send out letters to people from your past. Example: I once mailed the first guy i kissed a long letter explaining why i was glad he was my first kiss (bear in mind this was about 6 years after the event). I didnt sign it or put a return address. I have no idea if he got it. I wish I could have seen his face when he read it. Im sure the letter would have made it onto his blog if he had one.

Oh, another thing you can do is randomly pick a name and address out the phone book and mail something completely random to the person, like maybe send a hammer and a jar of peanut butter and just write a card that says: "you know what must be done" or "if you build it, they will come"
....heheeeheee

Happy Friday!

How to act crazy -part 1: the imaginary pet

It doesnt look like i am going to get a real dwarf bunny anytime soon, so i decided that I shall just get an imaginary dwarf bunny until i get a "real life" replacement.

Soooo, dear blog readers Id like to introduce you to my imaginary pet "Coco" (full name scrappy coco - thanks, Adam Sandler for the inspiration). He is small, light caramel brown and currently only lives in my head. He like to eat sponge cake and drink carrot juice. He likes to wear little stripey sweaters and sleep in hats. With Coco around I truly can "Blame it on the bunny"

You can have your own imaginary pet today, at no cost to you and with absolutely no committment to it. You can imagine it or forget all about it whenever you like. Sooo simple. and the best part is no cleaning up critter poop or feeding it (unless you are seriously delusional)

If you decide an imaginary pet is for you dont think of yourself as crazy, rather think of yourself as "reality challenged" ( now doesnt that sound better)

Important notes: If you actually start to see your imaginary pet, follow below instructions:
* Put down the bottle - you have had way too much already
* If there is no alcohol or medication in your bloodtreeam at the time of the "sighting" - please consider seeking psychiatric help

Truth or revenge?

It seems like South African woman now have a website where they can name and shame their loser, lying and cheating ex's

The website is called "Dont date him". Its a fairly new site and seems to be catching on really quickly.

Personally, I am NOT in favour of sites like this. I dont think its right to insult, humiliate and spread bad stories about anyone (even your evil ex) online for the world to read.

While some of the men listed on the website may very well be pigs and cheaters (and probably deserve to be treated this way) I am sure a few men are only listed because the last lady they dated is highly upset and wants some revenge.

So whats true and whats made up? Who really knows but the two people involved.

Would really like to hear what you think about sites like this.

Soapy TV bubbles

I am still battling an addiction to the Bold and the Beautiful (which i mentioned in detail on a previous post).....dont judge me.... I clearly have mental issues i need to deal with *grins*. Despite the fact that the show is undeniably annoying and full of swingers, I still find Im drawn to it. I keep telling myself that it could be worse, I could be addicted to "Cheaters"(now thats a really twisted show).

I decided to write this post today as something very suprising has developed with my TV watching lately, I seem to have taken a shine to the local soapie/series "7de Laan" . I didnt think i would ever follow a South African TV series (and definitely not a Afrikaans one), but to my surprise I find myself hooked on it.

Like alot of South africans i grew up watching alot of American TV series (& soapies) and even the occassional Australian soapie (you remember Home & away and Neighbours, dont you?) because of this I always thought our local soapies and TV series (if you could even call them that back then) were horrible, dull and talentless in comparison. Well, I am singing a whole new tune now. Local is lekker and it seems to only be getting better.

I dont think id choose 7de Laan over a an episode of "Friends" or "Gossip girl" quite yet...but who knows...maybe one day.

10 things I learnt - this weekend

1. I really like stand up comedy (and let me add South African comedian, Marc Lottering is brillaint)
2. I can be a moody cow sometimes, and its not nice (note to self: dont sweat the small stuff so much)
3. There is no meal that you can't have Coke with.
4. I dont like house music in the morning. I mean the "doof doof" kind, not just music played in the house.
5. The Boyf is so good to me and i cant even find the words to express how much i love him ( i actually learn this more everyday).
6. I want a dwarf rabbit. They are too adorable and apparently make great pets.
7. Dogs have periods. I really didnt know this. Its weird.
8. Taking omega 3 is working wonders for my hair. Try it!
9. Apple taffy with a peanut butter center is strangely tasty
10. I dont think i could ever be a vegetarian, but i think i should cut down on red meat.

Fumbling through Friday

All week I have been feeling very close to jumping off the edge of my sanity. Thankfully the weekend is here and my hair looks fabulous today. Hooray - i feel all better!

Tonight The Boyf and I are going to the 94.5 Kfm heavyweight comedy jam. It will hopefully be a hysterically funny. Im so in the mood to laugh so hard my ribs start to hurt.

observation: Everyone seems to be getting pregnant. Well, at least a lot of people around me. Last week i heard both my previous bosses were expecting new editions to their families and yesterday my darling hairdresser informed me she is pregnant.

In the past i have noticed that pregnancy seems to become contagious. So, please all pregnant ladies stay away from me. Im so not ready for babies yet. One day (in the distant future) I do definitely want one, but anytime soon would seriously not work for me ( i was thinking maybe at about 32).

Blog following: Some of you may have noticed the new blogspot feature called "following". If you go to your dashboard you will be able to see who you are following and if you have any followers. It sounds creepy and kind of like stalking, huh?

I have added the "follow me" thingy onto my page (look on the right hand side of this page under blogs and websites i like). If you like my blog alot, now you can become a follower.

;-)

Have a great weekend. Catch you all on Monday.

Happy Friday!

Pretty hair, the ugly "D" word and alien news

Im feeling really good today, This could be because caffeine is running through my body right now and the sun is actually shining outside or maybe its the the fact that i am getting off work early to go to the hairdresser (yippeee). I think all you gals out there can agree that there is nothing like beautiful, just-out-of-the-salon hair to make you feel awesome.

Some serious thoughts: My parents are getting divorced. This is NOT shocking news for me, as they have been seperated for about 4 years already. Sadly, it still sucks that I know they will not be getting back together (I had unrealistic hopes).
Dysfunctional families and "broken" homes are totally normal today - sad, but true. Its rare (even seen as abnormal) to find couples that even last 10+ years today. I actually feel a tinge of jealousy for people who have a solid, traditional family. The Boyfs parents are awesome and inspiring. They have been together for decades and seem to still be very much inlove (ahhhh...too sweet). I want that one day -- the kind of love that grows but never gets old.
Some people say its crazy to even believe in the institution of marriage anymore - I say "gggrrrr" to those people. While I realise divorce is sometimes the only way out of an ugly, unhappy marriage, I still think its crazy (and a bit sad) that people find divorce so "normal" and ok now.

In random, weird news: A Florida man vacationing at Lake Tahoe claims he caught a tiny, elf-like figure dubbed the "leprechaun-alien" on film as the creature was fleeing a forest....
Seriously, people - this is real news!! Its not just on the pages of the crazy mags and the weirdo, gossip blogs. The above comes from Fox News. Do you think it could be true? I highly doubt it. I liked this story though, it seems so silly and made me giggle for a good few minutes.

A little game of tag

Today I thought I would start a little game of tag.

Monthly i share my current addictions (see previous post), today I would like to hear some of yours.

Here's who i have decided to tag:

What you need to do:
*Post at least five current addictions (with some details please)
*Mention the person who started this game of tag (yup, me-Being Brazen) and also the person who just tagged you (no reason in this case).
*Type your post with the heading "Current addictions"
*Tag at least two people and pass on the above rules

Current addictions

Time to confess my current addictions...To those of you just starting to read my blog I try to do this monthly:

* Scented candles - I cant seem to get enough of scented candles. I used to be one of those people who kept the "good candles" strictly for special occasions. So i constantly had all these pretty unburned or one-time burned candles around just collecting dust. Not anymore - im cured of that silliness. Im a "candle pyromaniac" now .... Must burn more...need more candles..oh, what pretty flames.

* My heart locket - I used to have a pretty locket that The boyf bought me last easter. It was round and I called it my easter egg. Sadly we had a break in and it was stolen (grrrr). I found an adorable heart locket in Dubai and since i bought it the locket and I have been inseparable. At the moment i wear it everyday.

* Yellow - I absolutely love the colour yellow at the moment. All the clothing I seem to want to buy lately is yellow. Ive always liked yellow and I even used to have yellow bedroom walls when i was a teenager, but then i turned to darker colours for a long time. Happily i am back into yellow - this can only be a good sign.

* The Boyfs clothes - I seem to be wearing a few of The Boyf clothes lately. Yes, they are oversized and ill fitting, but when i get home from work i always find myself climbing into a oversized top, a thigh length jersey or a pair of his sleeping shorts. Its not really my most sexy look - but its really comfy and makes me feel closer to him (awww - i know, I'm disgustingly soppy)

* Virtual trip planning - The travel bug bit me rather hard during my latest overseas trip (to Dubai). Now i find myself constantly looking online for travel packages and "virtually" planning my next trip (which i hope will be to Paris & UK). Sure after the last trip there is a short supply of cash, but its great to daydream. Hopefully all my trip daydreaming will become a reality next year. :)

What Spring Day?

Its Monday..again...grrrrrrrr...will this Monday nonsense never stop?

Today is not just any Monday, today is also Spring Day (AKA a cruel joke for Capetonians). This year Spring day seriously sucks for two reasons:

1. There is absolutely no sign of Spring! In fact Cape Town had one of its worst weather weekends in a while and trust me when i say its very yukky and cold outside today still.
2. Its Monday - and Monday is definitely not the best day for celebrating anything (public holiday Mondays excluded of course)

At least there is a bright side to all the chilly weather (got to be positive) It is great cuddle up weather, its a great excuse to avoid exercise and we can all still hide under layers and layers of clothing. heehee. Anyhow, i am going to climb out from under my desk and go and warm up my soup now.
:)
PS - To everyone actually having a sunny day today - Happy Spring Day!
