Whats in a blog name?

I have always loved the word "Brazen". Here's what it means:

The adjective "brazen" has 2 meanings:
Meaning #1: unrestrained by convention or propriety

Synonyms: audacious, barefaced, bodacious, bold-faced, brassy, brazen-faced
Meaning #2: made of or resembling brass (as in color or strength).
Pertains to noun: brass (meaning #1)

When The Boyf encouraged me to start blogging I toyed with a few possible names for my blog (looking back most of the names were really lame and I am glad I didn't use them).
Eventually I decided on "Being Brazen". I chose the name for a few reasons, but mainly because it already was my e-mail address and because I just like the way it sounds.

Question: Why or how did your blog get its name?
Do tell...

(Note: The cool, rather arty photo above is of me. My wonderful, multi-talented Boyf took it)

Poetry. I live by the sea, see? I weave in and out of words, writing Poetry(or trying to!).

  2. I love your blog name, its so catchy :)
My blog is years old and used to be gossip blog so i named it after myself and my sister because people always think we are superficial (although we are not :P ) and it fitted in with the gossip side.

  3. "Adorably Distracted" I choose this because as I was sitting at work I felt like I needed some to distract me and get me through the day. I felt like this was a cute way to let every thing that was in my head at that moment out. Cutely distracted didn't sound right so I went to good ol' dictionary.com for the thesaurus!

I always wondered what brazen meant!

  4. Hey, love the pic of you! Very arty indeed. Am trying to figure out what you really look like, but can't see your face.
My blog name sort of explains itself - am pregnant, and love cats, so used the cat thing to give me anonymity.

  5. Love the pic!

My blog name is boring... just a journo doodling away.

  6. Mine came from sharing horror stories with a fellow lizard-researcher, when my friend Sarah decided that I needed a blog and walked in on that conversation and decided it for me. I like it though!

  7. Handwash only - to me means something that is not run of the mill, special, needs special attention etc etc. just like me I suppose.

  8. Coming up with a blog name is such a funny thing! I'd be interested to know what your options were.
My blog name is based on one of my nicknames.

  9. Your blog name is very very cool Brazen, you should register it.

Chester Pillow was the character for the kids books I wrote to teach African kids English. ParkLife just popped into my head while listening to Blur and trying to understand Johannesburg!

  10. "Backwater Views". A friend and I ran a part-time rant/free MP3 website at school called Backwater Views cause we thought our views were pretty out there and wouldn't be widely popular. It faded away once we had to start paying for the domain. Three years later I started a blog with the same name as a tribute, which is now pretty apt as I live in Vietnam, which some would consider a bit of a global backwater.

  14. Gorgeous picture BTW.

I have a lot of off-the-wall sayings, and when I was trying to think of a decently clever/memorable name for my blog I thought this one would fit just perfectly. I try to surround myself with intelligent, quick-witted people, not only because it keeps me on my toes but because it's just darn entertaining. So, occasionally one of them will bust out with a particularly snarky comment, and I'll reply with, "Well okay, Sassy Britches!" Kind of a play on the sarcasm of, "Why don't you tell me how you REALLY feel, eh?" And because I am who I am, there are many times that I catch myself either thinking or saying snarky things and good-naturedly admonish myself in the same manner...hence the name.

  15. Sas' Magical Mystery Tour - my name is Sarah but my family and friends have called me Sas forever. And I like the idea of always moving and never quite knowing what is around the corner - that's when the magic happens!
I know this is a beatles reference but I always thought they were pretty over rated really (pop music god strike me down).

  16. My name is Mike, and my blog is about my life here in London (mud island) as an expat - with my friends, traveling around europe and others, and illustrating my interactions with the characters in my life... and also to give a heads up on whats on... ramblings really...

  17. I love the photograph!

My blog name is pretty straight forward really.. I'm not quite Swiss yet and my look on life here is well.. twisted.. hehehe (I should write more about it, I know)

  18. There's quite a lot in my blog's name :) It's Anthony Burgess' book's title (and Stanley Kubrick's adaptation). The book was a language experiment, which, in a way, my blog is - or at least it was supposed to be, assuming that English is not my first language.

  21. Awesome photo.

My blog name: I have no idea. I like the sea, monkeys, I am a saffa, and spindrifting, well I just love that word. It means temporary, and insubstantial, which is how my life feels.

But I have no idea why of how I came up with the name.

  22. Mine is easy...

My initials are 'J.J.' and I live 'in L.A.'

...and it just happens to rhyme. : )

  25. Well, my username has been sleepydumpling forever, and I took a big adventure, my first overseas trip, three months through the US and Canada. And then I realised life is an adventure, so I kept it.

  26. I LOVE your blog name. It has such meaning! :)
Mine came from a time when I was (and still am) SUPER homesick for Kansas. Can you believe it? I miss Kansas! And what other symbol than Ruby Red Slippers epitomizes the thought of Kansas.

  27. From The Online Etymology Dictionary http://www.etymonline.com/

    brazen
O.E. bræsen "made of brass," from bræs "brass." The figurative sense of "hardened in effrontery" is c.1573 (in brazen-face), perhaps suggesting a face unable to show shame (see brass). To brazen it out "face impudently" is from 1555.

My blog's name Hardspear and my Internet pseudonym 'Hardy Spears' sound like a hunky pornstar's name, but it is in reality the meaning of my first name, though my first name is a shortened version thereof.

  28. As an American expat now living in South Africa my blog name came from my experiences in South Africa both sweet and sour.

I'm just getting started so check me out!

  29. Anyway, it's a good choice for a blog title. and it sounds good too. something very different.

  30. I like to sleep and I'm always tired. Jane is such a generic name that I chose it for anon purposes. So if someone googled me they couldn't find my blog.

I'm kinda regretting it now and wish I could change it. Probably will if I *ever* figure out domain hosting and such which isn't likely.

My week is rather hectic to be honest! :) And yours? Why aren't you twittering? I miss you on there man!

  31. And because cheers was taken. LOL

  32. Awesome picture Brazen!
Well my name comes from an old Gothic song that used to play in the clubs I used to frequent. I just loved dancing to it and it made me feel nostalgic about those days. Very often I wished I had used a name a name that made more sense with who I am now! But I guess there is no going back and pretty futile to have regrets!

  33. "Paper Ballerinas". No idea where it came from, just sort of came to me one day. Now I think about it though, and I realised that there are writing/paper connotations, ballerinas are beautiful and I try to write about pretty things I like... I wanted to be a ballerina but I'm not (obv), so I can write about things that I want/can't have... I don't know!!
That photo of you is cool

  34. I have always felt lucky to have stumbled onto the name of my blog before someone else scooped it up. It comes from my general frustration with society and the fact that while many people say one thing, they do the exact opposite. The media, religion, ego and greed have made much of society hipocritical of itself. One day it just got to be to much and blog blossomed forth. While I try not to use it as a soap box to rant and rave too much, once in a while its true underpinnings shine through. Life is all about asking questions and not following the crowd.

(PS...my email address is also the license plate for my car)

  35. Love this topic.

I was trying to come up with something powerful for my blog name, I have blogged before, but I wanted to go anonymous.

    ANYWAY.

I was honestly, just sitting in bed thinking, and I thought "All of these people GET through things. I write through things."

So, Write Through This was born :)

  36. How did I know it was you in the pic before I read it? I feel like I know exactly what you look like, have you never posted a pic? Maybe it's my awesome intuition. Ha.
Sexyredframe, well you probably know it came from the sexy red specs I bought when my eyes rejected contacts and I was feeling quite self conscious about it, but decided to rather embrace it! Now... I guess the name has to go? Will mail you bout the Lasik!
