Random babblings & beauty blah blah's

On Tuesday I got my new Nokia 5800 xpress music - it totally rocks and I think its going to change my life (Ok, maybe it wont do that - but it sure will help me twitter more, check my mail whenever and look more trendy - hehehe)

Another cool thing also happened on Tuesday...my mom arrived back in Cape Town after a month of travelling alone. As always she looked fab and didn't look at all like she had just walked 800km across alot of Spain (how does she do it?).

On Saturday I am going for my first facial (yup,I did just say first). I'm not really sure why I have never been for one before, but a few months ago it dawned on me that its definitely time I went for one (you know, just to try it out). So I booked an appointment. While i was at it, I thought why not try some other things I haven't tried, So I decided to have the eyebrow and lash tint at the same time...i mean, how bad an idea can that be?

At the moment I am trying to fight off some ninja flu germs that seem to be picking on me. So, I'm off to curl up under some blankets with some hot tea and a book....

Ps - I am digging Lily Allen's look in the above Chanel handbag ad - I wish I could afford that bag and wear a crown without looking insane ;)

Hey, cool car!

A while ago The Boyf and I were driving around, when I randomly spotted a dog and classic car in an interesting garage.....I just couldn't let this photo opportunity pass me by, so I took the above picture ( just before the owner appeared).

I love classic cars. Im not sure what sparked off this love, but for a long time I have been lusting after them from a far.

My dream classic car has always been a 1965 cherry red Mustang (convertible). Though, I do realise this car is not very practical for city life and probably a serious gas guzzler, I still cant help but want one for weekend drives by the coast *sigh*

My more realistic dream car at the moment is the Toyota RAV4. Its really awesome looking, its a Toyota (always reliable) and I would just love to have a SUV.

Whats your dream car/s?

Movie moment

Samantha: I have to ask you a question. It's a good one so think about it. If two people love each other, but they just can't seem to get it together, when do you get to that point of enough is enough?
Jerry: Never.

I have decided that every now and then I will be sharing a favourite movie moment with y'all.

When I started to think about which "movie moment" to share first, I was torn between a few - there are just so many choices. So, I decided I would just start with a simple movie moment from "The Mexican" (starring Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts), that I have always found sweet and worth pondering .......

Would you answer what Jerry answered? Or is there a point where enough is enough for you?

Sneaky study spider

This morning was going so well until The Boyf discovered that an eight legged thing was in the apartment study (I feel ikky just thinking about it). Obviously the Boyf assured me that it was harmless baby (I understand he had to lie to try keep me calm), but I saw its huge body and fangs.

Who knows how long the freakish creature had been living in the study? *shudders*
<>
Since I almost got sick from the mere sight of it, the Boyf decided it would be best if I left the room while he wrestled the creature into a container (brave, very brave). After just a few minutes the Boyf had secured the home invader in a glass.

The wolf spider (its actual name) was gently released back into "the wild" at about 8:00am this morning.....Ok, maybe not gently..... I made the Boyf drop it from 4 storeys in an attempt to disorientate it so it can't find its way back (because as you probably know most spiders have wicked ninja skills - i had to take special precautions)

Beware the biscuit bunny....

......It will steal your cookies
(and probably make you say "awwww")

Oversharing?

In the past I have written about this subject before ......but, lately a few events have caused me to want to ramble about this subject again.....

I often stumble upon blogs that, in my opinion, are too personal. As much as I may be a little curious to read about other people's supposed stupid boss, latest conquest, kinky drunken night, evil ex and run in with the cops - It does make me wonder if some people think before they blog? (Dont get me wrong, I love personal blogs,I have one...but some people dont leave any details out)
<
The ever growing popularity of social networking sites and blogs seems to have made it overly acceptable to be "too personal" and "overshare"(note to self: must remember to go twitter that I need to wash my hair). In fact, its so acceptable now that its odd if you are not oversharing online.
While some people may not care about your life, loves and interests (Yup, some of us are just not that interesting), there are some people who do actually want to find out about you and your online activities (stalker, boss, partner, exes, etc..)....

Despite my best efforts (which clearly were not that good-*grins*) to keep my blog "anonymous" when I started it, I came to realise a while ago that people I know have or will eventually read my blog. Since having this realization, I have tried to never write about anything I wouldn't want my friends and loved ones to read (lets call it "sensitivity selecting" rather than censoring).

Clearly alot of people feel completely comfortable with being too personal and oversharing -but Im not one of them. While I will never be able to not share personal things with y'all (obviously), I think im going to keep being a bit selective and keep certain things un -blogged :)
>
I would love to hear your opinions and thoughts on this: How personal is too personal? Do you overshare alot? Have you ever overshared and maybe should not have?

Skyping and scary sheep

Last night I was chatting to my good friend, Mish Mish on Skype (she lives in USA). We always end up having the most random chats - Sometimes they sound something like this:

Mish: Oh, I love the English Countryside. So much green and yellow with sheep all over.
Me: Sheep freak me out. They look all innocent, just standing around mindlessly chewing on grass, but I bet they attack people
Mish: *laughter* maybe...
Me: I try stay away from sheep. Their eyes seem a bit glazed over eyes ...like zombie eyes.
Mish: *laughs* I'm not too worried, I know they probably would not attack me -but they would attack you because you eat them ( Mish Mish is a vegetarian)
Me: *laughs* Well, I think they would attack you too because you would try steal their grass. I see it now....The sheep would be chanting - baaad vegetarian, baaaaad vegetarian...aren't we good enough for you to eat
Mish: *hysterical laughter*
>
Ps - THIS movie shows the true nature of sheep.

Happy Friday!

Current Addictions

* Survivor - I have no idea how this happened, because I’ve never been a huge fan of reality TV. Recently I caught a few episodes of Survivor and now I am so hooked. I love all the challenges and the interesting, sneaky contestants. Though its a cool show, I really don't know if Id ever want to be on it (too many bugs and backstabbers)

* Getting fit – I’m actually enjoying trying to get more fit (shocking, i know). I am finding that getting fit is really helping me be less of a moody cow *grins*, helps me sleep better, gives me a reason to start buying cute workout clothes and just makes me feel so much happier in general.

* The Nokia 5800 XM - Next Month this is going to be my new phone and I can't wait. I have had a really ancient phone for too long - current phone has no camera, no music and no cool functions. The Nokia 5800 XM on the other hand is a touch screen, can do plenty of awesome things and is so pretty.

* Avocado with Cottage cheese on toast -
This combination is so yummy. Sprinkle on some salt and pepper and it is a great snack. Also, if you have it on healthy seed bread (or similar) and leave off the butter its rather healthy too ;)

* The book im reading - The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova is such an interesting book. I have not been making a lot of time to read lately, but when I do I so enjoy the journey this book is taking me on. It’s a bit dark, very detailed and probably not for everyone. Click here to read more about the book.

Well, you asked (part 2)...

Yup, its part 2 (i got way more questions than I thought I would). While I realize that a sequel is hardly ever as good as the first one, I still hope this post is a bit interesting -

Ninnles asked: When you going to start your novel?
I have started a novel recently. In fact, I always start to write stories. The issue is that I need to finish a novel...I'm totally awesome at at starting them ;)

Sid asked: I'm rather curious about the type of novel you'd like to create?
I have been thinking I would like to write a young adult (aka teen) novel. I'm not saying I wont write an adult fiction novel one day, I may just want to try a young adult book first.
>
One Way ticket asked: how do u keep up with so many blogger fans and may I know how many hours u spent on it?
I don't keep up with my blog readers as much as I want to. I try read as many blogs as I can a day. I probably spend an average of 2-4 hours a day on blogging and blog reading ;)

LizSpin asked: Do you like bossing penguins around?
ummm, yes. Especially *Jackass penguins....cause well..they are jackasses. heehee. (* this is the actual name of the penguins that you find around where i live)
>
SleepyJane asked: If you could be someone else for a day who would you be? :)
I gave it some thought and decided that I wouldn't want to be someone else, it would just feel fake......... though I wouldn't mind being a "rich, yacht owning, holidaying at my villa on an island" version of myself for a day...you know, just to see if it suites me *grins*

Tamara asked: How did you meet your boyfriend?
The Boyf and I met very randomly online a month or 2 before I was about to move back to South Africa from USA. He offered to take me out when i got back. I said OK. We went to dinner the week I got back and I completely fell for him.... *happy sigh*
(note - this is obviously the very short condensed version of the story)
>
Down and out Chic asked: I'm interested in the pizza topping- bacon, banana and garlic. is this all at the same time?
Yes. Cook the bacon before you put it on the cheese covered pizza, then add the sliced up banana and some garlic.....and then put it in the oven to cook...yum yum...

Mango Girl asked: Is it okay to burn your house down (with all pets removed, of course) just so you don't have to do laundry?
Are you insured? cause if yes, then it may be an option. hehehe... I don't like doing laundry either, but thankfully I have a wonderful domestic helper (aka cleaning fairy) who comes on Wednesdays and does our laundry - of course we have to pay her, but its so worth it.

Reeders corner asked: If you could do one illegal thing and NEVER get caught, what would you do and why?
I would probably choose to speed and park were I want forever (lets count that as one) - because traffic fines are so expensive and its really hard to drive the speed limit in some places.

Ps - Go and vote in my poll (on your right) -thanks, darlings

Monday, 13 July 2009

Well, you asked (part 1)....

Today I thought I should start answering a few of the questions I have been asked...do I did..

Helen asked: tell us what is it that you love and hate about living here (South Africa)?
I love so much about living in South Africa. I especially love the amazing natural beauty and how culturally diverse it is. I also love that nearly all my family lives here.
I hate that we have a lot of crime and that there is so much poverty. I also hate that we don’t have Coldstone ice-cream, Topshop or Taco Bell. (hehehe)

Hayley asked:...would you ever leave South Africa?
I have left South Africa before. I lived in UK for 2 years and in California (USA) for 3 years. Though I enjoy experiencing new places , and might try living in another country again, I don’t know if I could ever move away from South Africa forever. Home is where the heart is.

Tamara asked: If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you pick?
At the moment I really miss some of my good friends... so, I would love to go to Los Angeles to see Mish Mish and UK to see some friends. I also would love to go to France or Italy and just wander around, drink wine and lounge on the beaches.

Heather Nicole asked: So, how many pairs of shoes are in your closet at the moment?
I go through stages with shoe buying. I only have about 10-12 pairs of shoes in my closet at one time. I try to be good about tossing or giving away shoes I don’t wear anymore (or ever). My favourite shoes are usually flip flops.

Sid asked: If you didn't have to work for money ... if you had all the money that you needed to get by (and then some) ... would you still work where you do?
Nope, I would definitely leave my current job.

Skinny bitches in the making asked: Whats your favourite pizza topping?
At the moment I love bacon, banana and garlic - yum yum.

Po asked: Do you plan to have kids, and are you afraid of being a bad parent?
I would like to have a kid one day when i feel ready. I am not afraid that I will be a bad parent, I actually think I will be a great parent. I am, however, rather freaked out by the actual being pregnant and labour part.

Ps - Please feel free to ask me a question if you have not.
PPS - There is a new poll up (on the right) please vote if you feel like it :) Thanks.

Accidental parking space thief

The guy who works in my parking lot approached me this morning. At first i was thinking "oh no, did I forget to pay my parking again this month?" -but no, it wasnt that. He actually wanted to inform me of something else:

Parking man: Yesterday you parked in the wrong space
Me: Really? you sure?
Parking man: Yes, you parked a few spaces down and the lady was very mad. She wanted her parking place.
Me: *laughs*I didnt even notice I was in the wrong place. How weird is that?
Parking man: *looks at me with blank expression*Ok. Please try to park in your own space in future.
Me: *laughs* yes, sure. I really didnt even notice. I hope the lady just parked in my place.
Parking man: She did, but she was very unhappy about it. Said i must tell you not to park in her place again.
Me: Ok.... (note to self: Must draw huge lipstick happy face on lady's window)
Parking man: you must look at the beeeeg numbers on the parking place *getures with hand to beeeg number*
Me: *I walk around to see number on my parking place* Well, i seem to be in the right place today. Yay for me. Now, lets hope i remember what floor I work on *grins*
Parking man: Ok *he gives a little chuckle, shakes his head and walks away*
<
I found this whole thing very amusing, as I have been parking in the same spot for way over a year now, I pay for my parking place and I know which number mine is - and still some how i parked a few places away from my normal place.....ha ha....
>
....I think I may be losing it a little.

Blog Love - local chicks

I love reading other peoples blogs. I always find it fascinating to find out more about other peoples lives, loves and thoughts.

Today I would like to give some blog love to a few newer local (aka South African) chick blogs that I have recently found:

1. Skinny Bitches in the making - "We’re skinny bitches with cute boys, killer heels, dream apartments and size zero waists. Well, we’re in the process of it all".
2. Stuff by Emma Jackson - I will admit I really like this blog because i seem to have quite a few things in common with Emma.
3. Being Desi - posts are short and sweet.
4. Story of a girl - lots of honest ramblings from Melisoo
5. Verbal Diarrhoea - rather quirky ramblings :)

I am always on the look out for cool blogs to read and be inspired by......

Running from changing room mirrors

After a rather horrid encounter with my reflection in a changing room mirror on Saturday afternoon (Dear YDE, your mirrors suck!) I resolved to start exercising ALOT more

So, as the sun was about to set on Saturday, I decided to leave my house (with my i-pod in hand) to go exercise -My mission: jog as far as my body would let me *grin*.

Needless to say, The Boyf was mighty surprised to hear me proclaim that I was actually leaving the house to "go for a run". I think he must have misheard me because he replied "have fun".

As I emerged from my nice, cosy apartment block I scrolled through my i-pod for some inspirational music... I decided on the Gossip Girl Soundtrack, which for some reason gets me very happy lately.

After a moment of standing on the pavement and wondering how i should start, I just launched myself into a run (maybe not the best idea), By the end of the road I was panting and wheezing like an overweight chain smoker (and I am neither of those things). I managed to walk a bit further and then eventually admitted a temporary defeat and tried to jog all the way back home….

When I got back into the apartment I could tell The Boyf was rather amused to see I was back home after only about 10 minutes, but as usual he was encouraging and Said things like “it will get easier the more you do it” and “look how cute you’re red, glowing face is” (you rock, hun!)

Last night I attempted to go for a run/walk again (which seriously impressed The Boyf). I didnt really feel like it at first , but then I remembered my horrid changing room moment and I was off....... (tonight i may have to hit the gym)
>
Hmmm, maybe i should be thanking the clothing stores for their horrible changing rooms - because if it wasn't for their horrible lighting and honest mirrors I would not be feeling as motivated as I am right now.

What motivates you to exercise?

Gym, mom missing, Batman and a quote

Last night I actually went to gym. Seriously, i did. I got my lazy butt into some gym clothes and drove to gym at 7pm. This is the second (yes, second) time I have gone this week. Sure I only manage to stay for 30 - 40 minutes....but at least I got there. Now, I just need to keep this up and stop procrastinating so much (i say this too often)*grins*

At the moment I really miss my mom. She is currently alone in Spain. She is doing this pilgrimage walk called the Camino. Basically what this means is that she is walking across Spain for a month (pretty nuts, hey). Apparently, after just a week, she already has blisters and is finding it harder than she thought. I'm sure she will finish it though (yip, shes awesome).

This weekend I plan to just relax at home, read my book and watch all the Batman movies ('cause they are having a Batman weekend on TV). I totally love all the Batman movies. Oh, and I may also do a bit of cleaning - if i absolutely have to *winks*

Because its Friday today (and i always put up a quote on Friday) I would like to share one of my new favourite quotes. I love it because its...well...so "me" and quite frankly I could not have said it better myself - Have a great weekend, y'all.....

"I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure.
I make mistakes, I'm out of control,
and at times, a little hard to handle.
But if you can't handle me at my worst,
you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best."

Extrovert or Introvert?

I definitely consider myself much more of an introvert than an extrovert (well, except when i drink).....To find out for sure how much of an intravert I really am, I went and did a quiz (cause you know online quizzes never lie *rolls eyes*) -this is the answer i got:

"You Are 40% Extrovert, 60% Introvert: You're a bit outgoing, a bit reserved. Like most people, you enjoy being social -But you also value the time you have alone. You have struck a good balance!"

I think thats the first time in a while that i've been called "balanced" in some way *heehee*

Go take the quiz HERE and let me know what you are.
