Me, today

Today I ...

... adore my new red, leather ballet flats - They are so comfy (yup, that's them above).
...went to a media event at a Forever New store and met some nice bloggers.
... had a few good laughs (Thanks, Jen)
...realised that constantly making comparisons will only ever lead to discontentment.
....decided I actually like the natural colour my hair is growing out.
... wandered around a mall aimlessly for a while.
... fought the urge to buy a box of choclolate brownies for lunch.
... am wearing dark grey polish on my nails.
...wish I was part of the study group in 'Community
...should do some form of exercise, but I probably won't.
...enjoyed the late afternoon thunder storm in Cape Town.
... will be having a bacon and mushroom pizza for dinner (yum)
...feel very hopeful and open to new possibilities.

How have you been today?

The promenade

Today I thought I'd share two photos that I recently took (with a tiny bit help from my Instagram app). Both pictures were taken on the Sea Point promenade, which is a great place to go for walks/jogs and also happens to be very close to where to live.

The seagull actually seemed to enjoy posing for this photo.

This photo was taken this morning.

Music crush: The Civil Wars

At the moment I am loving American folk /country duo The Civil Wars. Besides having great voices, the band's lyrics are so honest and their music is filled with emotion.

Their full album, Barton Hollow, was released in 2011 to rave reviews and this year the band won the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance & Best Folk Album. If you haven't already, I highly recommend that you give them a listen.

While I really like most of the songs on the album, 'Barton Hollow' and 'Poison & Wine' are definitely my two favourites. Random fact: recently 'Poison & Wine' was used on an episode of The Vampire Diaries - you can check out the music video for it below:

Movie thoughts: The Hunger Games

First off, I should probably mention that I am a obsessed crazy fan of the The Hunger Games books, so I did have rather big expectations going into the film...

Yesterday The Boyf (who doesn't know much about the books ) and I went to watch a sneak pre-release screening of The Hunger Games film and we both enjoyed it.

The good: Even though there are slight differences to the book, all the main scenes are in the film. The locations, costumes and sets are great. Most of the characters are well cast  - Personally I think Jennifer Lawrence is  fantastic as Katniss Everdeen.

The not so good:  I felt like the biggest flaw in the film was definitely character development -  quite a few of the characters lacked the depth and intensity that they had in the book. Also at 2 hours and 22 minutes the film is pretty long, but  I seriously doubt they could have made it any shorter without leaving key parts out (The Boyf and I didn't really notice how long it was).
I
Final thoughts: Unfortunately the movie fell short of being as brilliant as the book, but is still entertaining - Plus, it really is awesome to see the book come to life on screen. If I had to rate it, I would probably give this movie a 7 out of 10.

Notes: Before watching the film, I'd recommend that you read The Hunger Games book (written by Suzanne Collins). The film will be released in South Africa on 13 April.

Have you seen The Hunger Games yet? What did you think?
